Went to Ralph Gardner in North Shields.

Favourite moments?  So long ago, but I remember winning the tennis tournament.

Loved it when the louts got the cane!

Best time was being a prefect...........keeping all the louts out at break time, ha ha.

Trini.

St Josephs in Hebburn n it's rubbish when they say school days are the best of your life! :)
I work with someone who went to Ralph Gardener left about 1977.

I went to Ryton Comp.  Hated every minute of it. Me and friends were often outside headmasters office for picking on other kids (oh the shame!) or for getting caught smoking behind the woodwork rooms. Our favourite cry... 'But sir you cant cane us, we're girls!'. So we always ended up with lines to do.  Always hated when it snowed too. The lads used to make the snow into what felt like iceballs when it whacked you in the face (ouch!).

Ryton is a lovely place... used to be even better before the... well lets just say the 'other' people (no not aliens lol) started taking over.  But that could be said for any place i suppose. I remember my mam taking us down there for picnics in the summer.  There was always a good crowd of people.  Its still nice down there and ever so peaceful only not as many people there these days.

Yeah smoking is bad for you, my late husband died of a smoking related illness.  I still smoke though.

As I remember there was a little wooden hut /cafe/shop just under the railway bridge as you went onto the willows- as a 12-13 year old I used to swim across the tyne at that point- needed a bath thereafter !
and at that age I used to smoke 10 Woodbines a day as and when funds were avilable

I vaguely remember a shop down there when i was younger (late 60's early 70's). My mam used to get herself a cup of tea and us kids pop and crisps to go with our sarnies.

Oh those were the days lol.

Thats sounds like the same hut- the railway station was closed as I remember but you still had the odd  steam Engine( train) running along the track and when we were camping the boiler man would shovel us some coal off the footplate as they passed for our camp fire- Have you any connections with Chopwell ?
I was there 2 months ago trying to do some family history but sadly drew a blank? Keep Well !

The only connection that i have with Chopwell is my nephew lives there.

The railway station was before my time cos i cant remember that. I remember a little building with all them handle/lever things in.
