The Geordieland website
is designed to introduce people to this part of Britain. It will give you a few facts about Geordieland that you may not know. You will learn about the place, the people and the language. I've had a quick look. I'm not quite certain what you'll learn but I'm sure the locals will keep you right. Let's see if we can find a better site ... we want to learn as much as possible.
Geordie.co.uk Wye Aye Man!
looks a better site for the more mature student. It seems I was right about this site. It includes a short history lesson about the Vikings and the burning of monasteries.
One has to remember that Geordie is not, repeat not, a regional accent. It is a language in its own right. It owes a lot to Scandinavian tongues, for the Geordies and the Vikings had much in common. They both liked to chat up each others women folk and burn down monasteries. In fact the Vikings made monastery burning a national sport for the time.
People are taking this all very seriously these days. It's a bit like the Ulster Scots tongue being taught again in Northern Ireland. Here's a BBC site
Learn the lingo - speak like a Geordie
Finally, here's a
Geordie Quiz
to test your knowledge.

Thats an interesting comment Christopher , perhaps people are looking towards learning about their regional identity as a resonse to greater globalisation ?
