Discover the chequered history of Newcastle upon Tyne, from Romans and Knights to ship-builders and pitmen. Some fun and fascinating scientific exhibitions; important collections of maritime, social history, fashion and regimental life are on display.

The region's biggest free museum attracted over 450,000 visitors in the last year and there are always new displays to enjoy.

Discovery's impressive entry atrium the home of Turbinia the world's first turbine-powered vessel has recently been updated. It now includes exciting interactives and information on the ship's history.

Beautiful photographs will be thoughtfully displayed in the temporary exhibition gallery.

Science Works
An interactive exploration of science in the museum's Great Hall.

20 June - 3 September
Skaters
An exhibition created with the Wallsend Skaters group, which will produce an innovative documentary of their culture including their clothing, footwear and skateboards.

12 July - 5 August
Hidden History
A unique touring exhibition celebrating the hidden history of Asian, Black and Jewish peoples' experiences of settling into Britain.

1 - 31 August
Discovery Channel
Great technologist from around the country will be under the spotlight in this exhibition organised by the Discovery Channel.

14 August - 10 September
Lord Mayor's Centenary
An exhibition celebrating 100 years of the post of Lord Mayor, including costumes, silver and pottery.

12 September - 5 November
African Carvings
An impressive exhibition created by refugees, asylum seekers and unemployed people with African artist Lilian Mary Nabuline.

20 September - 19 November
Mauretania: Tyneside's Golden Ship
Exactly 100 years after Mauretania was launched down the Wallsend slipway of Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson a new exhibition about Tyneside's most famous ship will open at Discovery Museum.

11 November - 31 December
Tudors Exhibition
Tudor life both rich and poor is investigated in this hands-on exhibition.

20 November 2006 - 28 January 2007
30 years of Punk in the North East
The social climate surrounding the Birth of Punk in 1976 will be explored through oral history, objects and memorabilia from individuals who lived in the region during that period.

15 February - 15 April
Deaf Young People photography show
Beautiful photographs captured by deaf young people in the region.

1 July - 1 September
Shaping the Future: people and design
A hands-on exhibition exploring the evolution and impact of design and technology in the past, present and future.

19 July - 2 September
Shoes
From fashion to folklore, this exhibition explores and celebrates local people's obsession with shoes. It will complement a larger Shoes - the Agony and the Ecstasy exhibition at the Shipley Art Gallery.

I think the Discovery is great ,the Turbinia alone is worth seeing as it's an important part of North East, British and even world history.

A can rememba when the Turbina wos in Exhibition Park, a think in wot is now the military museum.  :)
