Does any one remember th Handyside Arcade late 70's early 80's, punk....... Great little record shop, y cud get badges made as well, the Kar Bar, still gannin just off the bottom of Westgate road.  A stylish place that shud neva hav been knocked down!  :(

I remeber just before the punk era there was a strong smell of petuli oil.

I can just about remember in the 60s going through the Arcade.....it was brilliant......anyone got old photos? or maybe a handy link or two. If my memory is right one tiny shop sold vintage clothes....cheers Summer :)

Great place, I remember going to the Kard Bar in the punk era, you could buy records and get badges made. Kard Bar is still going, just off Westgate Road across the road from the Tyne Theatre but caters more for the lot that hang round Eldon Green now. Think the vintage clothes shop was called Attic or Attica, at the top right of the arcade I think.  :)

used to go to the Handyside Arcade in the 80s ! on a Saturday before the match ! remember the Hippy juice smell, badges and we used to play the space invader ! HAPPY DAYS !  :D :smitten:

Aye great place, absolute disgrace they got rid of it. Just watched Control, not a big Joy Division fan but the bloke really got Ian Curtis on stage.

My girlfriend at the time bought loads of hippy clothes from a shop in the Handyside Arcade. It was in the upstairs section. Can anyone remember what it was called?
