Pretty much walking distance to everywhere from there, tho Central Station is just along the street from the Centre For Life
where you can catch the Metro to Monument dead center of town but it's only one stop, just as easy to walk. Head for Central Station then cross over the road to O'Neils (Irish Bar),
go right then left and straight up, you'll pass Forbidden Planet and then you'll see The Monument with Earl Grey on the top, easy. ;D

There's the Travelodge on Forster Street, the Copthorne on the Quayside, the Royal Station Hotel next to Central Station and the Thistle Hotel across the road. GNER has a long stay
parking area behind the station at 8.50 for 24 hours.  :)

If it's the Newcastle Gateshead Tuplip it's actually on the Team Valley in Gateshead on the big Industrial Estate. Traffic is very busy at rush hour but it's only across the river from Newcastle. There buses from the Team Valley straight to Newcastle or to Gateshead Metro station which is one stop from Central Station, if the traffic's good you could drive into Newcastle in 10 minutes. There's a car park near the City Hall and an underground one beneath the Gate don't know the charges tho.
Places to go, well the great St James Park of course! The Gate which has a lot of different bars and a cinema (www.thegate.com/co.uk?), the Bigg Market, dead busy and a bit charva-ish. The Laing museum, free, The Discovery science museum, free, The Center For Life about 7 quid but worth a vist and a Military Museum in Exhibition Park, about 1.50. There's Eldon square and Northumberland Street for shopping, a comedy club on Westgate Road and places to eat and drink on Dean Street and continuing on down to the quayside. Go into one of the Nexus travel shops in Gateshead, Central Station or Monument metro stations and pick up a Great Days Out brochure, it tells you about Newcatle stuff and days out based around the metro system, VERY handy. Enjoy yasels!

Oops did get a bit carried away, but I know it's nice to have an
idea of places to go when visiting instead of trapesing around.
Bit of a trainspotter too!  ;D

I was gonna say that The Bigg Market is just  really a place to stop the charvers from heading towards the Quayside. lol ;D

I posted details of the Newcastle Youth Hostel on the Links board. The hostel is located on the edge of the city at 107, Jesmond Road. It is ideally situated for exploring the area's attractions on foot, by car or using public transport.

The Royal Station Hotel is a three star hotel in the centre of the city. It was opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1858. It has 144 ensuite bedrooms and 14 conference rooms.
