Second division Sunderland won the FA cup Sunderland played a much-fancied Leeds side but came out winners thanks to a an Ian Porterfield goal and an amazing double save by goal-keeper Jim Montgomery. For many people, the memorable image of the game is manager Bob Stokoe, an ex-Newcastle player, wearing a pork-pie hat, racing across the field at full time to congratulate Montgomery.
