The Super Casino
« on: 09:15:48, 07/09/06 »
I have followed the debate about having the new super-casino built in the city, I didn't have a strong opinion one way or another previously but generally I am coming to think it would be a good idea.
We already have 4 casino's in Newcastle so this would just be a difference in scale.
And it would also have the kind of conference facilities attached which the city lacks at the moment so bringing tourism and business to the region generally.
I wonder what other people think?

The people who are against it say it will encourage gambling but there are loads of ways people can gamble if they want to.

great another neon flashing billboard dominating casiono to offend the eye. I propose we demolish one of our oldest buildings to make way. Better still destroy the hospital bacause we really need another casino. Classy.

I know where you are coming from Jade, personally I think that we should get rid of the existing ones and just have the super casino.

Remember though that its not just the casino there will also be conference rooms etc.

Mind you, you'll probs have to walk through the casino to get to them like, lol

I agree with you that we should have just one super casino, im not anti-casino I just think that the conference rooms are a weak justification for yet another electricity consuming and environment damaging monstrocity.

Why does a city need a casino ??? It's a con trick .. just another form of taxation. You earn all week ... lose it in the casino and have to earn more the next week. The customer rarely wins .. the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Gambling is fast becoming a national pastime.

Im sure the people who came up with this Casino plan (the investors) thought to themselves 'how can we solve the conference room shortage CRISIS in Newcastle? I know! we will build a huge casino that will solve everyones problems and bring wealth and tourism for all the other businesses.'

Gosh they are such charitable, caring people. Always thinking about others, of course they wont really benefit from the enourmous profit it will generate, practically robbing the poor mugs who dwell in such gambaling establishments. Then they go off in their rolls royces laughing all the way back to their mansion.

But people will gamble if they want to, from the horses to the national lottery, bingo and the pools.
Everyone who gambles isn't a mug and most people gamble one way or another it doesn't mean that it takes over their lives.
There's nothing wrong with having the choice.

I wish I was getting paid to promote it.  8)

They could always switch to solar power, it could then be classed as a 'Environmental Friendly Super Casino'. lol

Ok truth is, I love going to casino's about twice a year (that way I dont lose too much money, lol) the ones i have been to in Newcastle are pants and its about time that we had a casino that offers ALL the games and not just some using the casino's own rules.
