Oxfam Bookfest
(1/1)
OxfamEvents:
Oxfam is celebrating its third annual Bookfest - the UK’s largest book festival. Bookfest features book-related events, promotions and family activities across Oxfam’s nationwide network of shops.
On July 9th the Oxfam Books & Music shop in Jesmond hosts a local Bookfest at The Tyne Bar in the historic Ouseburn. This fantastic event starts at 1pm and if booked in advance, anyone can get free guided walks of the venue. The available walks (at 12:00 and 14:00) will be led by volunteer experts on topics ranging from industrial history to our vanished pubs. Please call 0191 281 8383 to book your FREE tickets for the guided walks or email us oxfam.ouseburnwalks@gmail.com
In addition, this Bookfest has the support of three very talented and well-known local bands. Fire Maidens from Outerspace, Skylark Song and Is Shepherd (solo) are playing live at the event starting at 8 pm.
Bookfest celebrates the central role that books play in people’s lives, and the impact that donating a book or buying a book from Oxfam can have on the lives of poor people around the world. Book sales have been helping Oxfam in its fight against poverty for more than fifty years, and every book we sell makes a difference. The sale of just two books in an Oxfam shop is enough to pay for one day’s home-based care for a person living with HIV or AIDS in South Africa while the sale of three books could provide ten days’ worth of basic food rations for a family in an emergency situation.
